Enjoy Your English Learning

One of the most important things you need to have in mind when you want to really learn to speak English is to enjoy what you are learning, you must have fun when you learn how to speak English, this is one of the most powerful techniques you have to try, so you can really learn to speak fluently and spontaneously.

Think about children, what do they do at most during their time? Children play all the time, they need to have fun.  When they play with their friends, they always try to do fun stuff or when they watch a TV show it’s always a show that they really can enjoy.

As I said in former articles, children have the best method to learn how to speak any language, so we have to imitate them, do everything they do, so my advice for you today is to have fun! Try to do everything you like in English, watch nice TV shows or good movies in English, put on the subtitles in English if you feel that you are not catching any word by only listening to the movie. If you like video games, try to play the whole video game in English only, change the console language, put on the English subtitles if you want and, relax!

You could even have friends from countries that speak English, this could be a great opportunity, and if you have English speaking friends, enjoy listening to the language when you talk to them. You probably, like me, have thought some times: “Hey, this word sounds pretty cool in English”, so try to pay attention to the way they say things and enjoy the conversation, try to always talk about interesting stuff.

I can assure you for my personal experience, if you enjoy your English learning, you are going to get awesome results. You’ll improve your English pronunciation; you will learn English grammar without an effort, your speaking is going to be natural and fluent, you could even get an accent in English. Just try my advices and I'm sure that you will learn to speak English.

What you should not do:
  • Do not watch movies or TV shows that are not interesting for you, this is just going to make you feel frustrated because you will not understand anything.
  • If you listen to an interview, mp3 recording, conversation or whatever, do not do it if it’s boring for you, it is not going to help your learning.
  • Do not listen to music as “part of your English learning”, that is not conversational English, it is music! This is never going to help you improve your English speaking skills.
  • Do not study English from textbooks.
  • Do not think about grammar rules.
  • Do not try to force yourself to speak; this will only make you feel stressed and frustrated.

Our brains are perfectly designed, they learn languages automatically, we don’t need to force them to learn, and this is what children do. So have fun at the same time you learn to speak English!  I will recommend you a movie so you can watch it, listen to it in English and enjoy it, of course if you don’t like this movie you can watch another one, something you like!

REMEMBER: FOCUS ON LISTENING, ENJOY WHAT YOU HEAR AND ENGLISH WILL GO TO YOUR MIND AUTOMATICALLY.
